JOB TITLE: Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP)

LOCATION: Anne Bradstreet Early Childhood Center

EVALUATED BY: Principal, Special Education Administrator and/or Designee.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  To provide services to students with communication disabilities which will allow them to access the curriculum and to participate in both school and community life as defined by students’ IEPs and RTI.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Massachusetts Teachers Certification in Speech, Language and Hearing Disorders and Massachusetts License in Speech and Language Pathology (All Levels)
  • Current ASHA certification; Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC)
  • Education: Hold a Bachelor's Degree. 
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment
  • Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Technology experience 
  • Masters Degree and experience working in a public school setting with students of all ages and abilities, preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide students with intensive instruction in speech, language, communication, and pragmatic language skills as determined by the Team process and subsequent IEP formulation
  • Assess students via formal and informal test measures
  • Participate in the development of student’s Individual Education Program (IEP); write progress notes and maintain student data
  • Assist teachers and other special education staff in the development and implementation of curriculum accommodations/modifications and appropriate classroom strategies as determined by the Team process and subsequent IEP formulation
  • Maintain appropriate records and provide timely reports
  • Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques for students with communication disorders
  • Evaluations will be performed within timelines established in state and federal regulations. 
  • Therapy and consultation services will be provided to students based on the individual needs of each student and in compliance with each child's IEP, 504 Plan or RtI. 
  • Collaborate with other members of the teaching staff to schedule treatment consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student.
  • Speech and Language Pathologists will provide services in the least restrictive setting. 
  • Speech and Language Pathologists will participate in pre-referral, Team Meeting, Student Support Team activities and will provide professional development to school based staff as requested or required to meet students’ IEPs. 
  • Speech and Language Pathologists will consult with other Related Services providers, teachers, parents and outside providers in order to provide effective services in a variety of settings.
  • Speech and Language Pathologists are to comply with state regulations concerning renewal of certifications and licenses. 
  • Speech and Language Pathologists are expected to develop, update and adhere to both a daily and weekly schedule. Each school’s principal should be provided with a copy of that schedule. 
  • Speech and Language Pathologists are expected to comply with NAPS rules, policies and procedures as well as those of their assigned school(s) 
  • Speech and Language Pathologists are expected to maintain records of prior planning of lessons and to keep therapy notes for each child and therapy session and to maintain accurate records of student attendance

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Working in a school setting. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY
